Caring for your CBK Nappies |
- Your nappies will need a wash before first use to clean off any residue left over from the sewing process.
- Store used nappies in a nappy bucket- there is no need to add water or soaking agent/napisan etc. “Dry Pailing” is the best method of storing used nappies, it reduces the amount of water used, eliminates the use of harmful chemicals, and surprisingly cuts down on the odour in the bucket. It is also safer than having bucketfuls of water in reach of a small child.
- Rinse soiled nappies before storing them as they can stain if left to dry.
- It is best to wash your nappies every 1 to 2 days, any longer can result in the nappies deteriorating from the urine. This is especially important when bub is teething as their urine is quite strong.
- On washing day run the nappies through the pre-rinse cycle on your machine and then a normal cycle. Use only half to a third the amount of detergent you would normally use for a load. Do not add fabric softener as it coats the nappies and will reduce their absorbency! Please do not add vinegar either as this can reduce the lifespan of the elastic.
- The best method of drying your nappies in on a clothes airer. Lay the nappies horizontally over 2 bars, this allows the air to circulate and the nappies dry faster. If hanging on the clothesline, hang the nappies in half with the wings touching on either side of the line. Please do not hang by the wings as this places stress on the elastic as the nappy dries and will reduce the lifespan of the elastic. Drying outside in the sun is the best method as the sun is a natural bleaching agent and it is better for the environment than tumble drying.
- ClothBumKids AI2 nappies shells are not suitable for tumble drying. Fitted nappies (including newborn size), wipes, boosters and trifolds can be tumble dried on warm if needed.
- If you have purchased a cotton outer AI2, please ensure the microfleece (inner layer) is rolled outwards on the leg elastic when putting the nappy on your bub. This ensures that the nappy will not wick (spread moisture from inside to out) once bub is wearing the nappy. The nappies have been designed so that the microfleece does roll out but occasionally after washing you may need to check it is rolling the right way.
